The Winter Solstice is just three days away, the shortest day of the year. Though the shortened hours of daylight has done nothing to soften the bright colors of celebration in Oaxaca.

Oaxaca started its Christmas celebrations and festivities ten days ago. This festive season has only brightened this colorful city. Though it is hard to imagine this city becoming more colorful. I can only guess it is a result of the angle of the sun, and all the decorations of the season.

Colors also appear more saturated on the shady sides of the streets. In direct and bright sun these same colors tend to look a bit washed out.

Ultimately the science of physics is not important. It is the mood of this city, and its people, that play the biggest role.

The energy and joy on the streets is palpable. This energy is infectious, passing imperceptibly from person to person. The air itself is full of joy and good will.
