Each Time I Visit, I Discover More Amazing Public Art

I first walked through Barrio de Xochimilco last month. Stepping into this historic neighborhood I was immediately astounded by the beautiful murals.

I wrote a story here that afternoon titled . . . The Wall Murals of Xochimilco. It includes photos of more than half a dozen gorgeous murals. Murals are everywhere in Xochimilco, and none of those in my earlier story have been repeated here.

In that first story I framed the murals tightly, wanting to focus on the artworks themselves. This morning I tried to step back and include more of the surrounding neighborhood.

I think this offers a better idea of what it feels like to live amidst these pieces of public art. The cobblestone streets are narrow and offer little room to step back and get many straight on views. Though I’m sure you will get a sense of the local ambience even with the angled framing.
