The Ups And Downs Of Living With A Stranger
So to pick up where I left off in Part 1 of this story, I spent the next ten days on the glorious North Shore of Oahu. This was the first time I had seen the ocean in more than 15 years. After spending the last 10 years in Santa Fe, at 7000 feet, walking barefoot on the sand at sea level felt like a rebirth.
Wearing shorts, tee shirt, and flip flops, in the warmth of the sun in January was heaven. In this paradise, I felt untouched by the fiasco with Sandy.
Sure it crossed my mind, though to be honest, my mind was more preoccupied with sun, sand, and sea. I was also thinking about my own next move, though I mostly pushed it to the back of mind. I was far too busy being in the moment, and what glorious moments they were.
And I was photographing nonstop. I could not remember the last time I made so many pictures in such a short stretch of time. Again, I was in heaven.
I had also gone into a very quiet space. I felt no interest in talking to strangers. Sure I returned pleasantries when they came my way, but no more than that.
Looking back on this time from where I sit now, this time was like a foretelling of what my life is like today in Oaxaca. A premonition, in a good way. Though in this…
