Seeing Lots Of Green In My Viewfinder These Days

Looking back through my camera roll, I’m a surprised at all the green I see. The tropical climate of Oaxaca, is a big reason why this is so. Green is everywhere I look these days. Very few recent frames are without at least a bit of these verdant tones.

All of the images in this story were made in the last week. I do not go out looking for green. Green is not even one of my favorite colors. But here it is. It cannot be ignored, and I can’t seem to help myself.

I found this tree in Lllano Park. This huge park is three blocks from my favorite small park, Jardin Conzatti, where I photograph several times a week.

At first I walked up and had to touch this tree, to run my hand over its spiny surface. I was intrigued by the sharp points covering the trunk. I really had no intention of making its portrait until I stepped back, and looked again.

The branches growing horizontal from the spiny trunk, held me spellbound. The olive green color added to the allure. When I saw the Eye of Ra, between the lowest branches starring at me, I realized I would be honored to make this portrait.
