My photo life began with reading Weston's Day Books when I was 22. I was hooked, and still am.

But like I wrote in this story, that wide open projection lens changed everything. And I'm glad it did. Expression became the guiding force, as opposed to precision. It became about making art instead of f64 Group imitations.

And I really can't recall where that first picture came from. Though the split tone look makes me think it was a print made from a Polaroid negative, as I was using a lot of Type 55 film at the time. The version in the story was most likely an iPhone shot of a print.
