I am currently living in Oaxaca City. This extended trip is a gift to myself after the long, strange trip, that was the Covid lockdowns.

I was fortunate to spend that time south of Santa Fe, New Mexico in a rural area. It was a safe place to be. Though my heart was already in Mexico.

As soon as it was safe to travel, I booked a flight to Oaxaca. Interestingly, Mexico handled the pandemic much better than the good old USA. They don’t have our ‘red-blue’ divide. Wearing a mask was not an issue here, and everyone was eager to receive the vaccines.

Speaking of masks, virtually every one still wears one here. The state of Oaxaca still has a mask mandate in force. Though I have never seen a policemen confront anyone without a mask. In fact, the only people I see without a mask are tourists. And most all of them are Americans, but not me.
