This stunning portrait was made by street artist, Samael Aguero. He is easily my favorite Oaxaca street artist. I rarely take a walk without seeing several of his portraits.
His original works are transferred to a thin paper which he glues to walls and structures throughout Oaxaca Centro.
He has a unique style that he has perfected over time. He also typically signs his work. Many street artists do not.
His subjects are typically young boys, and they most often have a raven on their heads. I have never seen a female subject in his work.
I also follow him on Instagram, where he often shows videos of himself installing his creations around Oaxaca Centro. A truly fascinating young artist. The realism in his work is stunning,
I found this group portrait in Barrio De Jalatlaco. This artistic neighborhood is just east of Centro Oaxaca.
The common theme throughout this small neighborhood is dead spirits returning to life, often in truly magical ways. This is a good example.
