Sidewalk Views From Today’s Walk
The past couple of weeks it has been raining in Oaxaca nearly everyday. It is the rainy season, but it has been raining a lot more than than earlier in this season.
Before these past few weeks, typical days have been partly cloudy in the mornings. Then by mid afternoon the thunderheads would gather and the skies would let loose.
The extra rain has had an impact on my daily walking. By reading between the lines of today’s forecast, it looked like I might have an hour to get out and stretch my legs. So I went for it. I’m glad I did.
I currently live at the end of a short dead end street. I have recently thought about this as a metaphor, though that is another story I will save for later.
Two blocks away is the main road, Calzada San Felipe del Agua. The map shows Calzada abbreviated as Calz. I had no idea what it meant. Thanks to Google, I learned of the translation, and it’s meaning.
Calzada means ‘paved road’. It can also translate as ‘carriageway’. It can also mean ‘sector between two sidewalks’. Carriageway is now outdated, though the…
