Patterns Made By Man And Nature
A Photographic Look At The Similarities And Differences
Patterns create rhythms, and rhythms are often made of patterns. As a photographer drawn towards the abstract, I am always on the lookout for patterns, repetitions, and rhythms.
It matters not whether they are made by man, or created by nature. They always draw my eye and capture my attention.
Walking along an uneven, and not even close to flat sidewalk, I looked up to see this home ready to slide down the steep embankment. I was too fascinated to be frightened.
The repetition of the chevroned corrugations caught my eye. As did the lines in the windows, and highlights streaming through the trees. All seeming to compliment the folded metal, holding back a landslide.
Nature so often creates patterns that repeat endlessly. Growing from the center, there is no telling how far these repetitions might grow unchecked. Each leaf is unique, though only upon very close inspection.
Ultimately they are much more similar, than different. The starburst pattern is nature’s version of fireworks. Or perhaps it is the…
