Patterns Amidst Places To Sit

My Only Regret Is Not Making Self Portraits, Sort Of

This story began as a collection of images, of places to sit amidst patterns. Patterns of grids, patterns of shadows. It is these inviting patterns that offer contrast, to these places to sit.

In retrospect, my only wish is that I had taken a seat. A seat amidst the patterns. Each one of these seats has a story of their own to tell. Each one of these seats offered an opportunity for a unique portrait, of self, or other.

The seat above, with the background grid, is asking for a human form to contrast the geometric lines. To offer some human context to the exquisite shapes and lines.

This graceful bench and wandering shadows offers a similar opportunity. To be honest, the thought of self portrait never crossed my mind as I was framing this scene.

Looking back on this image today, I can only ask, why not?

Yet in the moment, I was far too caught up, in the moment. My mind was on light and shadow. I was thinking how the concrete bench sat among the flowing shadows, and curving sidewalks.
