This arching branch supporting this bundle of blossoms were so very delicate in the soft sidewalk light. A true delight for my lens.

I often find it remarkable, the amount of delicate scenes and moments I encounter walking these ancient streets.

Streets that can be noisy with traffic and car horns. By mid-morning the sidewalks are becoming busy with pedestrians.

The walls are old and worn. Flaking plaster seems everywhere. The layers of paint from painting over graffiti become bulbous. To see delicate blossoms like these almost seem a contradiction of terms, and odd juxtaposition.

The in and out of focus chicken wire, and its disappearance in the upper part of the frame here, gives some perspective to the depth of these window boxes. Some are deeper than others. Perhaps this is one of those. I did not pay close attention to this detail as I made this photo.

In monochrome, these window box portraits take on an abstract quality. A quality I am especially attracted to. I have always loved the abstract qualities of life. It is a space I feel most comfortable in. It…
