The Still Life Is Dear To My Heart, Nature’s Versions Are Always Special

As I wander around Oaxaca City, I am always on the lookout for still life compositions created by nature. A very tiny piece added by the hand of man is okay with me. As long as it is subtle, and mostly inconsequential.

This fallen palm fan resting on a sidewalk fits the bill for me. It reminds me of the time I spent on the North Shore of O’ahu in Hawaii. These dried palm branches were everywhere. Every one has a unique pattern and flow.

I am always reminded of maps. The contrast of radiating parallel lines overlaid with soft curves and curlicues. Destinations found on these maps always seem magical. This one is a map of dreams I long to have.

The unique lines on human hands carry mystic messages. Carry our destiny. Reading them is a skill few have. I am not one of the chosen few.

Though even my untrained eye sees a strong life line immediately in this grass pattern. The branch lines arch and fall, dip and weave. My uneducated guess is the lines of this grass palm indicate a raucous and joy filled lifetime. Sounds like a fun life to me.
