Nature Interacts Daily With Oaxaca
Part 1 — Of A Series, On The Life Cycles In This Vibrant City
Birth, life, decline, death, and finally, rebirth. This is the cycle of life I witness daily in this vibrant city of Oaxaca de Juarez. The capital of the state of Oaxaca, the fifth largest state in Mexico.
In my story yesterday, Quiet Solitude In Monochrome, I wrote of my own growth since moving to this colorful city.
Today I decided to begin a three part series of life cycles in Oaxaca. Nature was here long before this city was established, nearly 500 years ago. So it seems only fitting to write about nature first. Next up will be the people of Oaxaca. This will be followed by the built environment of Oaxaca.
The image above was made in the garden of the Centro Fotografico. This museum was established by the great Mexican photographer, Manuel Alvarez Bravo.
This tropical plant is growing in the courtyard of the museum. It clearly shows the life cycle of tropical flora here. There is the bud of new growth. There are the verdant leaves of life. And there is the broken branch of death. All against the backdrop of a Cantera stone column. The cycle of life.
