And What a Gift it Was

This morning I was out for my daily walk with my camera. I am practicing every day to be a better street photographer.

More than anything, it’s about getting comfortable pointing the lens at total strangers. And without asking permission. No small feat for a shy guy.

I am also using my camera with a manual lens, no auto focus for me. All of the camera controls are set to manual as well.

This means I am setting the shutter speed and f-stop for each shot. All while trying to nail the focus.

Sure it’s a digital camera, but working this way comes about as close as possible, to to how the greats of this tradition used their film cameras.

The way I see it, it’s all about being comfortable pointing the camera at someone, when they are looking back at me. And still pressing the shutter button.
