I arrived in Oaxaca City five days before my 70th birthday in 2022. The photos in this story were all made during my first week in this colorful city.

I had spent a month in Oaxaca four years before while traveling with a friend in 2018.

My arrival this time, was four years to the day of my departure in 2018. I didn’t time it this way intentionally. In fact I only did the math as I was putting the images together for this piece. Coincidences seem to have a life of their own.

One of the very first places I visited upon my arrival this time was the Agave Garden, on the grounds of Santo Domingo Cathedral. Since that first day in 2022, I have visited this garden often. Often to meditate amidst their noble spirit.

I have an innate and intimate connection to the Agave. I am not sure why or where this connection began. I only know I feel it in my blood, in my soul. It has been with me for longer than I remember.

I found Cafe Brujula during my first few days in Oaxaca. This lovely and light filled courtyard soon became my office…
