Listening to Sam Smith Took Me Back in Time

And Had Me Dancing Like I Haven’t Danced in Years

I recently ran across Sam Smith and Love Goes on Netflix. I had no idea who he was. It was the subtitle, Live at Abbey Road Studios, that grabbed my attention.

Growing up with the Beatles, I know well the magical history of Abbey Road. Later as a budding guitar player, I was well aware of the fabled Abbey Road recording studios.

I added the film to my list and pressed play. A couple of minutes in, when I heard his voice I was hooked in a big way. No, I was smitten.

I was propped up on my bed, watching the film on my laptop and listening to him sing the opening track, Diamonds, through earbuds. But my body was literally dancing on the bed. Is that even possible? I can only say a big YES!

The next day I was starting to cook dinner and remembered the film. I opened the laptop, downloaded the soundtrack from Apple Music, put the real headphones on, and hit play.

The magic I felt the night before was flowing through my entire body, and soul. The memories came flooding back. My body started dancing like I haven’t danced in years.

I kept dancing the entire hour the album was playing. Only pausing a moment here and there to stir the sauce I was…
