It's a study done by researchers on a Japanese island full of monkeys. Researchers found that when a new behavior began, it spread slowly. But once the 100th monkey adopted the behavior, almost instantly all the monkeys on the island adopted the new behavior. It is ultimately about the concept of a tipping point. This term may have come about because of the monkey study.
