To be clear right from the start, I am not speaking of a different physical lens. I am speaking of, the lens of my heart.

When I stepped out onto the street this morning the light was perfect, with just enough clouds to soften the view, to soften my vision. The streets that called to me this morning were less colorful, with more surface textures.

I was attracted to smaller views, views that would translate well to monochrome. All the vivid colors of this neighborhood are enticing, and exciting. Still my eye was wanting see in blanco y negro, the black and white that is my photographic foundation.

This piece of broken plaster wall called to me. The color palette was soft, nearly nonexistent. The contrast was soft. I knew it would require some editing juju to bring it to life, once the image was desaturated.

It is a view that could be found in nature. One that relies on subtlety and texture to define its beauty. This was exactly what my heart was craving. I knew it would be an opportunity to engage my darkroom skills, in the digital realm.
