I’m reminded of the Van Morrison lyric . . . “I must remember, there’ll be days like this.”

Yesterday was one of those days. I shot 63 frames on my morning walk, and there is not one I would show to anyone. Not even my mama. They all suck.

The day began well. I followed my tried and true morning routine. The one that always sets me up for a good day. Then I got ready, strapped my camera across my chest, and headed out onto the street. Everything was good so far.

I switched the camera from my standard black and white film simulation to a color one I use on occasion. I try to shoot in color a day or two a week just to change things up. To keep my chops up. It helps keep my brain flexible.

I have come to learn that shooting in color requires a different head space than shooting in monochrome. My brain just works differently. For me it requires more thinking and less intuition.

When the camera is set to color, I’m thinking in color. I look more for color harmonies and balance…
