I Took My Camera for a Walk This Morning

Like many things, my planned return to Oaxaca City was delayed by Covid. Now two years later, I am grateful to be back in this city I consider my true home. And my heart, and camera, are giddy with joy and love.

So early this morning I took my camera out for a walk. And yes, I was grinning from ear to ear. Everywhere I look, there are fascinating scenes and surfaces just waiting for my camera, and my heart to absorb and record.

I am always drawn to the joyful creativity the locals share on nearly every surface. This image shows the ancient mud bricks and broken plaster. Local artists seem to leave no blank surface unadorned.

It is most often graffiti, but this morning there were a couple of banana leftovers. And I wonder, did this person get full before finishing…
