I like traditions and rituals. I always have. Now I have decided to start a new one. A Friday Review, of each month I have spent in Oaxaca, through the lens of my camera.

Looking at my camera roll, it looks like I have made close to ten thousand images since I arrived near the end of February this year. That’s a lot of pictures.

February is birthday month for me. I planned my departure from Santa Fe so I could celebrate my 70th birthday in my new home. It was a quiet celebration, attended only by yours truly. I didn’t know a soul here. That was also part of the plan.

The window reflected self portrait above is a tribute to the occasion, in monochrome of course. Gotta start somewhere, and monochrome is always a safe bet.

The images selected for this story, also portray subject matter close to my heart. Still life, no matter the scale, is one of those genres that continue to fascinate my eye, my heart, my lens.

I have by now, become used to the funny looks from passing strangers, as I stand and focus on a subject, that others don’t…
