Feeling The Page Being Turned
One Chapter Ends, As The Next One Begins
My eyes opened with the new dawn. My body supported by the bed, that has held me these past months. It came to me, that I would awake here, but one more morning.
I have felt this transition moving closer these past days. One foot planted firmly in the old. The other floating above the new to come. Preparing to step cautiously, into the next chapter, that awaits me across town.
I later stepped through the steel door, onto the familiar sidewalk. As I locked the door behind me, I was reminded, this was the last time I would be taking this walk down Division Oriente. A walk my feet know well.
I wanted to walk slowly, to feel, and remember, each familiar step. So many memories on this path. Memories of how the light had changed, from one day to the next. Memories of the faces I had passed, nodded to, said “Buenos Dias” to. There will be new ones, where I am going.
Four long blocks later I crossed the street, and stepped onto Avineda de la Independencia. It was then I began seeing, all the familiar spots I had photographed over these months.
It was then I knew I wanted to make a last visit to Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad. As I climbed the dozen and a half steps up to the cathedral courtyard, I felt each one, and…
