During an 1854 lecture at the University of Lille, French microbiologist and chemist Louis Pasteur said, “In the fields of observation chance favors only the prepared mind.” Source

From my perspective, I would add two words to this oft quoted sentence. I would add . . . chance favors only the prepared mind, and heart.

My morning walks with Joni, my camera, are inconsistent. Some days I see photos everywhere I rest my gaze. Other days I struggle to find a worthy subject anywhere.

Some days I return home with 50 new images on the memory card. Other days I am lucky to have a half dozen. That’s how life goes, at least that’s how my photo life goes. I never complain. I only take note the differences from day to day.

At times I wonder, was it something I ate? Was it the quality of my sleep? Or is it just my rambling moods? Though I have no answers to these questions, I do know when receptivity and creativity are sitting together on my shoulder. And when they are, I come home with more new images on the memory card.
