As I was brushing the dust off my lens this morning, an odd instruction appeared out of the ethers. I heard the message clearly, Set the aperture to f8.

When I receive an odd message out of the blue, that feels disconnected to anything in my normal sphere, I listen. I also always respond to messages arriving in this manner, no questioned asked. I just do it.

It has taken years to open and nurture this connection. I cannot say exactly where it comes from, though I tend to believe it is my soul, my creative soul, my creative partner.

If you have been following my stories here over the past year, you know I have been using a camera for nearly 50 years. My training in photography was influenced by the Group f64 school of photography. Edward Weston was, and continues to be, my hero.

Not only did he adhere to the highest standards of straight photography, he also embraced the concept of black and white photography, as the newest medium of Fine Art.
