Mornings Amongst The Agaves Restore My Heart

Most mornings I hang my camera across my chest and head out onto the street. Once I have the gate locked behind me, I turn on the camera. I then choose a direction and begin to walk.

After living in my current abode for several months, there are a half dozen routes I take. I change them up every day. Even though they are all familiar, I always find new things to look at, new subjects to view through my lens.

There are one or two mornings each week when there are no decisions to be made. I know exactly where I am going. I’m on my way to the Agave Garden, on the grounds of Santo Domingo Cathedral.

My heart tells me it’s time to go to church. To the church of my heart. To the Agave Garden. This is where I go to touch ground. It is where I go to bring my heart back to center. It is where I go to nourish my soul.

This is where I go to meditate. This where I go to block out the rest of the world. This is where I return to myself, by looking through the lens of my heart, and the lens of my camera.
