“Wall Abstraction” — Image by Author

Walking the streets of Oaxaca de Juarez every day, I am always looking for a new route. I want to see something, anything, I’ve not seen before. Especially not what I saw yesterday.

After more than a year and a half, I have become a little too familiar with these streets. Though often walking on the other side of the street can make a surprising difference. The light is different. The shade is different. It is almost like walking on a different street.

Abandoned electric connection.
“Empty Electric Meter” — Image by Author

Perhaps this is the first time I have encountered an empty electric meter all by its lonesome. Usually these round boxes are ganged together in groups of three or more.

To see one hanging solitary in its lonesome is unusual. To see one hanging empty is beyond unusual. What the hell happened to this aging round box? Who ripped the power out of this power box? Someone is no longer able to turn on the lights. Someone is no longer able to turn on their TV.

I feel for them, and hope they are okay. Sad to think they are taking a cold shower. Sorry to envision they are eating their morning cereal with room temperature…
