I am instinctively drawn to palm shapes, patterns, and processes of living and dying. How they grow. How they evolve. How they return to the ground that nurtured them.

I also appreciate how palms respond to being photographed in monochrome. At how easily they become abstractions of light and dark. At how easily they become compositions of shape and form.

The ubiquitous palms in Oaxaca are a constant source of joy and intrigue.

I am especially drawn to closeup views. The nearer I bring my lens to these flowing forms, the more abstract they become. If I were a painter, I would create abstract canvases of palms close up.

Though in my photo-centered view, I doubt that my painted versions would do them justice. That paint and brush would honor these flowing forms as well as my lens. I am grateful these flowing forms are always willing to sit for their portraits.
