As I began my walk this morning I was in a reflective mood. This is not all that unusual for me. At 70 I have much to reflect on. The camera hanging on my shoulder encourages this reflection. There has been one camera or another hanging there for nearly fifty years. Cameras and my shoulder are old friends.

The thought came that it would be interesting to look for subjects, that in some way, reflected these many years spent with a camera hanging from my shoulder.

That is when the thought of sepia toned photos came to mind. Now I had a hook. A way to bring this reflection into my present moment.

I would look for subjects that would wear the nostalgic look of the brown sepia tones well. In my mind warm tones and a softer focus go together like hand in glove. This still life behind bars felt like a fine beginning.

During my many years in the darkroom I was always attracted to processes that would yield warm toned prints. The look of straight black and white prints left me a bit cold.
