And How It Has Changed My Life In Astonishing Ways

I arrived in Oaxaca several months ago with the intention of living a solitary and isolated life. No one, nor circumstances, forced this on me. I chose this life. I had my reasons.

I came to Oaxaca not to travel, but to live. Life in the States has become unbearable for many reasons. The red/blue divide has created a country I know longer recognize. The presence of AR-15 machine guns is reducing the population with alarming speed. America is no longer my home.

I came to Oaxaca to be alone and do the work I am passionate about.
I have been living in small Airbnb’s. This allows me to change living spaces and experience different neighborhoods as I choose. The experience has been enriching and inspiring.

I have made no friends here by choice. Smiling with my eyes, while wearing a mask, and saying “Buenos Dias” to strangers on the sidewalk and having it returned with a smile, provides enough interaction for me. The energy of life on the streets here feeds my soul and my creative life.

I came here to work. Between walking a couple of hours with my camera daily making photos, editing those photos, and writing a story on Medium every day . . . I work a minimum eight hours, seven days a week. I love and value every minute of it. At…
