A moving, sensitive, and well written story, Rodrigo. You have sensitively touched on the important elements of military service and war. And of course your planned timing is precise, as always.
I finished high school in '70, protesting the war. A year later I received my induction notice. It was the first year of the lottery system, I was #69. That year they called to #300. Fortunately I received a medical deferment, another long story. Let's just say I had a hand in it. I knew in my gut if I went, I would not return. Scary times.
